Takin

A takin; /ˈtɑːkɪn/ is a real animal: a large mountain goat-antelope from the eastern Himalayas, and the national animal of Bhutan. Its golden coat is said to have inspired the legend of the Golden Fleece.

The takin is built for hard ground. Sure-footed, steady, calm in any weather. It is not the fastest animal on the mountain. It just keeps going.

That felt right for an app made for people who work in all weather.

ReWhy Takin exists

Takin was built behind the wheel, not in an office.

I drive for a living, and like anyone who works for themselves, every month I had to turn my income, expenses and miles into the exact figures gov.uk wants. Same routine every time: bank statements, screenshots, a calculator, and the quiet worry of getting a number wrong.

So I built the tool I could not find. Takin turns your payments, expenses and work miles into the exact figures your Universal Credit report needs. It suggests, you confirm. Every figure is yours to check before it goes anywhere.

It started with drivers. Now it is for every self-employed person on Universal Credit, whatever the work.

One company. On the record.

Takin is made by Borun Studios Ltd, an independent London studio working across film, advertising and art. We bring that same eye for craft to something far less glamorous: the Universal Credit paperwork self-employed people dread.
