The questions people ask first.
Almost everyone asks the same three things before they install anything near their money and their claim. Here they are, and the rest of them, answered without hedging.
No. Takin is an independent tool made by Borun Studios Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company no. 16757096. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Department for Work and Pensions, HMRC, or gov.uk, and it is not financial advice.
No. Takin never contacts DWP, and nothing leaves the app on its own. You copy your figures into the gov.uk journal yourself, exactly as you would if you had worked them out on paper.
Never. Takin does not use Open Banking and never connects to your bank, so we never see your username, password, card number, or anything beyond what is printed on the statement or screenshot you choose to give us. Nobody from Takin will ever phone, text, or email asking for your bank login, card details, or a one-time passcode. If someone does, it is a scam.
You bring it. Import a PDF or CSV statement, snap or pick a screenshot of your bank app, share a file to Takin, or forward a statement to your own private Takin email address. On iOS 18.4 or later with a supported bank, Takin can also read the transactions you have already shared with Apple Wallet, on your phone.
Your figures work on your device first. When you sign in they are backed up securely to your account, stored in the UK and the EU, so you keep them if you lose or change your phone. We never sell or share your data, and notifications never reveal you are a claimant, on your lock screen or anywhere else.
You can remove it whenever you like. In the app, open Settings and choose Delete data, which clears your information from the app and from any secure backup tied to your account. You can also email us and we will delete everything for you.
No, and this is deliberate. Takin prepares the figures and you check every one before you enter them yourself. It suggests expense types too, and some of those guesses will be wrong, so treat them as a starting point rather than an answer. The final figures are yours.
Takin works for any self-employed person claiming Universal Credit. Private hire and delivery drivers get the most out of the mileage side, but tradespeople, hair and beauty, and any other self-employed work all use the same monthly report.
Takin is iPhone only at the moment, and UK only. Android is planned but not ready, so there is nothing we can honestly offer you yet.
There is a free tier that records income, costs and mileage and keeps everything you enter. Pro adds the automatic import, receipts and your full history. The current prices are on the plans section of the home page and on the App Store listing.
It is the minimum monthly earnings Universal Credit expects from your self-employment once you are past your start-up period. Takin shows how close your month is to yours. There is a fuller explanation, sourced to gov.uk, on our Minimum Income Floor page.
